Active Parenting Now*

Teaches parents of children ages 5 to 11 to instill courage, cooperation, and self-esteem in their children. Families learn how to communicate effectively, promote responsibility, and avoid problems such as drugs and alcohol, violence, and poor school performance.


Active Parenting of Teens*

Teaches parents of youth age 11 and older to redefine the parent role as children move through adolescence. Topics include developing responsibility in teens, and practicing positive discipline and healthy communication skills.


Active Parenting for Stepfamilies*

Couples learn how to work together to raise children in the challenging-and often rewarding-stepfamily environment. Families will learn powerful communication and negotiation skills to strengthen marriage and family. Designed for stepparents, foster parents, adoptive parents, single parents, and others affected by loss and change.


Active Christian Parenting*

Teaches parents of 3 to 12 year-olds the tools needed to strengthen family relationships while fostering their children's faith development. Combines parenting skills with Christian values and practices.


Active Parenting for Grandparents*

Teaches grandparents to instill responsibility, cooperation, courage, and self-esteem in children/teens. Grandparents will explore issues facing families today and learn skills to build healthy relationships with adult children and grandchildren. Ideal for grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren on a regular basis.


Strengthening Families

An interactive family course in which parents and their children (ages 10-14) learn strategies and gain skills to: prepare for the teen years, avoid problems with drugs and alcohol, and strengthen family communication.


Families in Action

Teaches parents and teens to develop strategies to prevent problems with drugs, alcohol, violence and other unhealthy behaviors. Program includes time with peers and interactive time with parents and teens.


Youth in Action

Geared toward middle and high school students, this program focuses on the fun and challenges of teen development. Students learn ways to build communication with parents and peers, develop problem solving skills, practice approaches for healthy decision making, and identify and apply responsible behavior in teens.


Family Nurturing

A time-intensive program to nurture and educate parents and their preschool and elementary-age children. Offers parents the knowledge, helpful attitudes, and basic skills to promote healthy development of children. Includes separate classes for parents and their children, along with interactive time for playing, and a snack. Family Nurturing is funded by the Lancaster County Children and Youth Social Service Agency and is free.

The 3 R'S for Parents & Youth: Relationships, Responsibility & Respect

To provide parents and youth (ages 11-18) with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to build strong parent/child relationships and to promote regular school attendance.

Guiding Good Choices

An interactive parent and child (grades 4-8) course that focuses on the transition to adolescence. GGC goals include: strengthening and clarifying family expectations for behavior; enhancing conditions to promote close family relationships; and teaching skills that allow children to meet the family and community expectation to resist drug use.


Kids and Drugs*

In this workshop participants will hear the latest statistics on pre-adolescent and adolescent drug use. They will examine trends in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use as it relates to depression, anxiety, suicide, school failure and drop out rates in teens. Participants will also learn the importance of family cohesion and other skills to prevent substance abuse in teens. Finally, resources will be provided that allow parents to learn more about different types of drugs and their effects as well as where they can get help if they think their child might be using drugs.


Take Action: Bullyproofing our Kids and Our Communities

This program focuses on bullying and its effects on kids, their parents, and their communities. Topics covered include advocating for kids who experience a bullying situation, how kids can empower themselves against bullying behavior, relational bullying, and cyberbullying. This course includes alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention components for youth.


Parenting Infants*

Teaches parents of children up to 18 months old how to nurture babies through stages of development; establish family goals, structure, and routines; and practice healthy communication within the family.


Mommy & Me*

An interactive support and education program for parents of infants (0-1 year). Floor time with infants.


Parenting Toddlers*

Teaches parents of children 10 to 36 months old to encourage children in the discovery of identity and completion of other toddler tasks, to develop family goals, and identify resources and support.


Parenting Preschoolers*

Teaches parents of children ages 3 to 5 years old to instill courage, self-esteem, cooperation, and responsibility in their children. Topics include positive discipline, healthy communication, problem-solving techniques, and preparing children for success in school.


After Divorce: Successful Co-parenting & Step-parenting*

A program to promote a nurturing and supportive environment for families affected by divorce and/or blended families. Topics include understanding the impact of divorce, managing parental anger, negotiating and communicating effectively.


Leadership Training for Mentors*

Offers participants information, skills, and resources to effectively nurture and empower others in a mentor relationship. Topics include: styles of mentoring, effective listening skills, understanding behaviors, problem solving techniques, setting boundaries, nurturing skills, tools to empower, building trust, and much more.


Internet Safety and Cyberbullying

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the topic of internet safety and cyberbullying. Topics covered in this workshop will include, the problems and dangers of cyberbullying, the victims of cyberbullying, false beliefs about cyberbullying, Shrinking the cyberbully, Resisting cyberbullying, and creating a personal internet battle plan.


The Bully Anti-Venom*

Learn types of bullying, ways to advocate for a child that is being bullied, and ways to confront a child that uses bullying behaviors.


Expressing Feelings Positively: Handling Anger and Conflict

A workshop in which participants discuss common family conflicts and their causes. In addition, skills for controlling anger and expressing feelings in a positive manner are presented and practiced.


Promoting Positive Choices: Building Self-Esteem & Courage*

Discover key ingredients to promote a child's positive sense of self-worth. Develop positive assets and protective factors.


Preparing for School Success*

In this workshop, participants will discover ways that parents and caregivers can be a child's best teacher by creating a productive learning environment for their children. Participants will be given tips for maintaining a positive relationship with their child's school


Moving Toward Positive Solutions: Problem Solving and Family Meetings*

Learn, discuss and practice techniques to become more successful identifying and solving problems


Nurturing Your Whole Child

Learn techniques and explore resources to help nurture all aspects of child's growth. Topics include family characteristics, the basic components of healthy relationships, the Search Institute's 40 developmental assets, and building the 40 assets in our children.


Effective Discipline*

Learn techniques to set limits, enforce rules, and guide children toward positive behaviors


What's Your Style: Parenting Models

Participants are given the opportunity to explore the different styles of parenting and reflect on their own style. This class addresses the purpose of parenting, identifying risks for youth in today's democratic society, building assets, mutual respect, setting limits by giving choices, and nurturing the caregiver.

Why Kids Do What They Do: Understanding Behavior *

Participants begin to understand the reasons behind child's behavior through presentations, discussions and interactive activities. The topics covered in this workshop include, discovering why children misbehave, the 4 goals of behavior (5 goals for teenagers), and helping children achieve their goals in positive ways.
